Vivitar 283/RD604 "eBay" radio unit

Hi, I'm brand new here. I just have a quick question, I hope somebody can help me out. I have a Vivitar 283 flashgun and I recently bought an RD604 radio unit (which you may know as the "eBay" Chinese radio units). Everything works fine with the radio unit; the signal is fine and everything seems to be operational. However, my problem is that the jack which is supposed to fit in the side of the Vivitar 283 unit does not seem to go all the way in? Am I doing something wrong or is the flash faulty?

Are you trying to plug in some cord that came with the RD604 unit into the Vivitar flash? Some other cord? A cord that came with the Vivitar flash?

What is the nature of the plug you are pushing into the Vivitar sync port?

Yeah, I'm trying to plug the cord (according to the listing it's an "X-sync cord with 1/8" [3mm] plug) into the side of the Vivitar flash, which according to the manual is where it's supposed to go, but I seem to be having no luck with this. It's pretty frustrating!

Well I guessed right.

The plug that you are inserting into the Vivitar is not the correct one. I hope you have not damaged the Vivitar port.

You need a cord that has the correct connection for the Vivitar port. It is a connection only used by Vivitar.

There are scores of different flash connectors.

You can see what the Vivitar connector looks like by going to this cord site and noodling around.

The Vivitar flash is sold with a cord that should work, do you still have that?

There are inexpensive Vivitar cords available on Ebay.

But stop trying to insert that 1/8 inch mini plug into the Vivitar 283, it is expecting a plug with far different attributes.
