Hi

I wonder if you experts out there could give me your opinion on this. I tried a skin softening and soft focus technique on this picture and would like your views on whether you think it too much/just right/ not enough. I think it looks just fine, its obvious what was done, but the skin looks pleasing to me. What does your model think?

It looks a nice image but I think if you are aiming for skin smoothing rather than just soft focus you need to sharpen up more of the edges (jaw line, hands etc) rather than just the eyes and mouth.

Thanks for your comments guys. Terry - I see exactly what you mean, but would it not look odd if the skin on the face were smooth but the skin on the arms, hands etc were not?

Lovely lady. I think it is little too much. Please do either one of them ( Skin soft' or soft focus).

Its just the very edges I think its a bit of a pixel peeping excersise but you give the edge of the area sharpness but leave the bulk of the skin area softened. I also think you use a soft edged brush.
There are lots of recomendations and tips on skin smoothing techniques in the G&N forum.

For a skin-improvement, it's way overdone. For a soft filter look, it's quite nice. Sharpening the edges will probably make it look like a poorly done magazine shot. I'd leave it as it is.

It looks pretty good. Maybe a little USM on just her eyes would improve it.

the skin smoothing is too much, i'd try lowering the opacity on your skin smoothened layer to make it look more natural.

The first one reminded me of the high-school portrait effect they used in the 60's. I like the original better. I'd just bump the exposure and fix the red skin tone. She's very pretty as is.

I think the first one was just a tad over softened? Which method did you use? maybe a little les gaussian blur and it'd be fine (if thats how u did it?) Here's a good tutorial on it for you. https://photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=171753
