Posting when the UK is asleep:

No "brilliant"
No "whinging"
No "Jessops"
No "Prices here suck why can't I live in North America"

I know where you're coming from, I live next door to America but come on... from our side of the fence it all looks normal.

BTW - lense is some weird spelling (to me) that isn't "American" per se, just a variant.

Main Entry: lens
Variant: also lense /'lenz/

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

A lack of English folks would rid us of the ubiquitous 'cheers' and 'mate' that plague their posts. :D.

It is an unfortunate fact of life that of all the people in the world who actually speak English, Englishmen as a breed are the worst at it. It takes a foreigner to speak the Queen's English proper, innit.

'Lense' is the one that drives me nuts, but you'll see that on all the UK photog forums too.

People who live in glass houses shouldn't cast the first stone....;)

I can't quite work out if Chris is being tongue in cheek, supercilious or just wants to see some flame action....but I'll watch this thread with interest to see how this goes down with the humourless among the membership!

The Queens English is dead Stevie ... as inventors of the language we are also in a constant reinvention of it and that is why some may consider it isn't spoken as well as it could be. They look back to benchmark, but language constantly moves so it is futile to attempt to tie it down. As long as meaning is shared then all is well.

True, Condyk, and I'm not so retentive or hopelessly conservative that I mind seeing things move on. Much....

But I would not agree that the language as a whole is being re invented solely by Brits. i think Hollywood is doing that - we'll one day be speaking our isolated little English-based dialects, while there will be a broader church of 'correct ' language spoken and understood by the larger population as a whole....Oh, gosh, doesn't that keep on happening?

This could end up reading like the transcript of a Radio 4 phone in.....
