It's that time of the year again! I am aiming for April 11 or 12, Tuesday or Wednesday at 9:00 at the Boat House again. Why then? Spring break is the week before and Mondays there is garbage everywhere. Done that before.

We can walk around the Tidal Basin and stop somewhere for lunch. We can sit and talk at one of the museums even, but bringing our gear, that is subject to inspection, of course. No tripods, don't allow them in a crowd unless you have a permit. I am not bringing mine. I usually get there around 8:30 because the bus drops me off then. It's an early day for me. I catch the bus again at 3, so I have a while to walk around. Hope to see a bunch of you there. I'm thinking about getting hats or tee-shirts.

Sounds do-able. Don't know as I'd try a museum though - school groups will be in toewn, too.

Suzie,

I really want to do this one. I'll take a day of vacation on the planned day so I can participate. :)

Great! I think those days are good since most of the DC area schools have spring break March 31-April 7. With the cold weather, I assume the blossoms will not come out until then anyway. Next week should be very warm, in the 60s. Evenings are to be cold, though. I remember last year it got warm sooner. Oh well. Beautiful day today. We had a snow day here in PW.

If possible, I would like to come. But it depends on if the date gets nailed down for sure at least 3 days ahead. That's what I need to get a personal day - without being questioned.

3 work days or 3 calendar days? We tend to make the final call based on weather.com; Friday for Wednesday's sort of pushing it and deciding on Monday gets us almost into the next weekend. Let's hope for a string of good days (although that'll bring out the crowds, too).

Article in the Washington Post today (external link) says NPS is calling for peak blooms April 4. NPS Bloom Watch page (external link) hasn't been updated yet.

Just saw this on the AP News...03-09-2007 -- 0925 hours

"A majority of the 3,700 trees lining the Tidal Basin will be in bloom from April 1-7 "barring the advent of an ice age or rapid acceleration of global warming," Robert DeFeo, the park service's chief horticulturist, said Thursday."

I am worried about that. I will not be around, going south for spring break. But if you want to have 2 dates to meet, that's fine too. I can only make it the second week.

Sounds good. I'll mark it on the calendar. I stood up Jen and Jon (two separate occaisions) due to technicalities, so I'll try to make this one.

Which week? Wouldn't want you to be 0 for 3 on technicalities. And there's Udvar-Hazy this Sat. to give you still another chance . . .

When are you going?

I can handle either; for that matter, since it's only a few blocks from my office, I can take 2 half days (but not Tuesdays) and swing by for both. Suzy's looking for the week of the 9th. I'd say a Wednesday either way. Or we could try to get down there early, ahead of the crowds if that works for any/everyone.

Stefan - either one better for you? Like spring break maybe?
