The local team made it to the Norcal CIF State Playoffs but unfortunately lost out in the first round.

It was a very physical game and I've never seen so many policemen at a BB game before. A few individuals from the stand almost got kicked out of the game too.

I was using the 85 @f2 ISO 1600 Manual 1/320-400 CBW (with the coffee filter :) ).

This gym is dark. I saw another photog with the 70-200/2.8 but I think he gave up since the speed is way too low for 2.8.

C&C are very welcome. I'm still trying to find the right rhymth for BB and time my shots better.

Nice job!

Only thing I would have done different is use 1.8 and over expose a stop or two as they are a tad dark on my monitor...

cbock, thanks. Yeah, the filter is a live saver :)

superdive, thanks. I agreed that the are a little dark. I think next time I'll go 1.8 and push it 1 stop. I don't want to use ISO3200 as the noise really showed.

What's the trick with the coffee filter for white balance?

Set the camera to manual 1/60 f4 (or any fstop), cover the lens with the coffeee filter, point it at the light or middlw of the floor, take a shot.

Then in the Menu set Custom WB to use that new image and change the WB setting to Custom White Balance.

Great action, great shots. I'm going to have to look into getting one of those coffee filters.

You point it UP to the light?

What benefit does the coffee filter give over shooting a peice of white paper and setting off that?

Sorry I worded it wrong. I didn't point UP at the light but at where I shoot most, like the 3 point area or the middle court.

Maybe it was the gym I shot in but with the white piece of paper, I got more pinkish/magneta tint to the skin tone. With the filter I got a better WB

I'm not sure about going all the way to 1.8; if I read this (external link) correctly, there is a considerable difference in sharpness and contrast between 1.8 and 2.0.

There might be a difference in sharpness, but to me its not worth the sharpness loss if you dont get that one shot cuz it was just too dark or blurred...(I tried to word this so it would make sense...not sure if it did though...LOL)
