Not razor sharp

So far, I am unable to get a razor sharp images. Is it mainly because I was using the wrong lens? The lens I used: 24-105 mm, Camera:Canon 5D.

Nice compositon and I think some back lighting or from the far left side would help. Back lighting would hilight the vein pattern in the petals.

flash helps to bring out detail right? ???
