New S500 owner seeks case

I've just bought my first real digital camera, a S500. So far - it's great. Picture quality is super. We had a freebie Largen Chameleon which is one step from worthless (but the price was right) - the Canon is a real step up.

I'm looking for a case to protect it and have noted the Pelican 1010 and 1020 products. I travel often and will use this camera for business as well as pleasure so a hard case is attractive from the crush and watertight points of view.

Anyone know if one of these fit the Elphs and which is better? How about other manufacturers' products? I'd look at a hard leather case also as I can put one in my briefcase and I'd think that would be protection enough.

If anyone has questions about the S500, I'll be happy to render an opinion if I can....

Thanks,

Why not get the digital elph's leather case? It straps on your belt and protects the cam. It doesn't have space for a spare battery, though. It is form fitting for the camera, too.

I've used both the Tamrac 5688 and the 5686 for my S400, which has the same dimensions as the S500.

The case is heavy denier nylon with a much finer weave denier nylon inside (I never had any trouble with scratching). Velcro closure and belt loop with snap/velcro. Small pouch for extra battery or CF card also.

The 5688 is a little oversized for the S400/S500, but I found it easier to take my camera in/out while it was on my belt. The carry strap also tucked away nicely inside and took up most of the extra room.

I've carried both in my briefcase as well. They do provide scratch resistance and some minor protection from drop-damage.

The 5686 is a snug fit.

Both are around $10-12.

i love the canon leather elph case. it makes the camera carry very well...

i recommend getting that one just because of the size... not that size really matters :)

congratulations with your purchase. I have the IXUS 500 too and I like it much better as my old G2 (because of the smaller size).

I have both the leather case DCC10 and the "suede" case SC-PS300. Latter is probably only available here in Europe but its advantage is its reinforced back to protect the LCD display much better. It also has more room for CF cards (2) and battery (1).

The leather case is smaller so my favorite for small trips.

success

A lot of camera people have recommended the Lowepro cases for this camera. I'm getting ready to buy a case as well so I've been checking into cases a lot recently. I'm impressed with both the Tamrac and the Lowepro but I'm not very impressed with the Canon case. It seems rather generic. In fact, I may end up getting a case for the camera and a memory card and then an additional case for all the other stuff I keep with my camera (like batteries, manual, charger, etc.) That way I can have a case for the camera to keep with me and a place to store everything.

Here's were you can get more info on the Lowepro cases: http://www.lowepro.com/pages/series/rezo/rezo30.html (external link)

This is one of the cases I'm looking at.
