First of all - this is a great site ad starting from today I am a member as well :). As I had suddenly some available money I decided to sell my 30D and cheap Sigma lenses ang go for 5D, EF 24-70 f2.8L, EF 85mm F1.2 L II, EF 100-400 F4.5-5.6 L and Speedlite 580EX.

Could you pls give me your opinions how universal this gear would be (I am an amateur mostly taking pics indoors and nature, all round basically :) ). I am not trying to hear loads of compliments, so if you have any criticism, shoot straigh out. Replys will be much appreciated.

Will be posting some pictures soon.

My Gear:
Canon 5D; EF 24-70L F2.8; EF 85 F1,2 L II; EF 100-400 F4.5 - 5.6, L, 580EX

If you can live with that giant gaping hole in your wallet, I think that's an ideal setup.

thats some serious gear for an amatuer.

what do you shoot? You're a bit limited on the wide side, its not awful, but a bit wider might b nice.

The 85L is amazing, but the 1.8 version is almost identical in all but extreme situations, and is ~$1200 cheeper and faster at AF. You could get a 70-200 F/4IS with the difference for a more versatile portrait tele

Wow, the replies come in fast, thanks

Mostly it is for all round purposes but I will be concentrating more on nature and furs and feathers. Do you thing it should be wider than 24mm also on full frame body?

I have the 24-70 with a 20D (full frame equivalent field of view of 38mm) and find it wide enough for what I shoot. It just depends on what suits you.

I'd go for the 24-105 IS instead of the 24-70:lol:

Good luck stopping anything with f/4 in low-light. I'd recommend you keep that 24-70L. The extra 35mm is maybe taking a step or two forward. IS will help you take static low-light shots, as well as help stabilize you during the day. However, I cant see too many situations where I would be taking a static night shot and not have had my tripod around anyway.

I'd probably find it hard to go for the 85mm 1.2: it's a lot for not a lot of benefit. I might go 5D, 24-105mm IS L, 35mm 1.4 L, 85mm 1.8, 70-200mm IS L 4.0 and 400mm 5.6 L, Kenko Pro 1.4x. Probably cost about the same. It's all personal preference isn't it and to be honest your choices seem entirely sensible ones too.

says who? plenty use it on FF without a "ton" of vignette

vignette is also an incredibly useful tool artisitically. I have to add mine in as my lenses don't vignette naturally.

Thank you everybody. What I was a little worried about was not being able tuo use an extener with this gear. 85mm does not take one and screwinf 1.4x or 2.0x ext on 400mm F5.6 is probably not a good idea as well... Does that mean that my only lens to extend is 24-70?

I have a TCon with my 400mm L. You need to MF with it loike that. You can also tape ove rthe three outer pins and it will AF, tho' you will need decent light and it can hunt a little. You may find that the Kenko Pro is usable as its design is much more flexible than the Canon or Sigma equivelents. I have had them all and no difference to me in IQ. All work well.

Good luck ...

Thanks Condyk,

Actually I already have a canon 2.0 ext. I guess it would make my (100-400 F4.5 - 5.6) F11 at 400mm? So only usable on a sunny day? Does somebody have any experience? Or would abybody even have some samples on such equipment?
