whats the scoop on a 550 canon flash........

Had a chance to buy one for $150 tonight....couldn't get the auto focus assist light to work...was in AV mode shooting on a 30D...what am I missing here...would it be a good deal at $150 for this flash...if it's in mint condition...thank you for your time and consideration

The auto focus assist light does not work in al servo mode ( they only work in one shot ) or if the top or bottom focus points are selected ( on your cameras at least ).

check both of these before asuming it doesn't work.

$150 sounds like a steal but things are different here in the U.K.

$150 would be a great deal IMO if the flash worked as designed. It's a great flash that sees lots of use in my kit.

I paid about US$150 for mine, and its in perfect working order.

Also there are custom functions on your camera body which will stop the AF beam from working as well,
