how not to make Lightroom save to .PSD when going into Photoshop?

Is there any way to stop Lightroom from saving a file to .PSD when I need to do further editing in Photoshop? In CS2 Bridge I was able to further edit into Photoshop without Bridge saving the file first.
.PSD files are just so large and it takes time to remove them from my library.

Any answers to this?

Off the top of my head, I don't think you can. You can choose to save as a different file type (TIFF), but LR is going to save something regardless. I wish it acted like DPP in this area and just copied the conversion.

I've looked through all of Lightroom and I can't find any option to stop it from saving.

Oh well..CS3 is coming out soon.

Not sure if this will help but if you set lightroom to auto write to the xmp file and have ACR 3.7 installed with photoshop cs2 you can open your raw file in cs2 with almost all your lightroom adjustments intact.
just start cs2 and then open the raw file. :-)
true you'll still have to save the file from photoshop and if you want it available in lightroom you'll have to import it, but for one off work it might be useful.

Is there a way to at least configure Lightroom to automatically open the PSD in Photoshop after export? Maybe some custom "Post-processing" action, as displayed in Export dialog?

Thanks

Of course... in the bottom box for what action to take, choose to open in PS. ;)

File > Export Photos > (set choices accordingly) > Post Processing > Open in Adobe PS CS2

Hi Amon,

Mine Lightroom doesn't show this option. Also, when I open Preferences dialog, External editors tab, LR tell me Adobe Photoshop was not found :(

Probably I need to reinstall CS2 and Lightroom for things work as expected...

No, you need to go into the regular preferences and make sure your PS is chosen as the "External Editor". ;)

Yes, work too, thanks!

Only need to restart Lightroom for changes to take effect.

Yes, technically that can be done but the bottom line is workflow, workflow and workflow. Having to open up Bridge to edit files in PS is just a speedbump in my workflow.

Question, are the .XMP files tagged with LR fully compatinle with ACR CS2 knowing that LR has certain adjustments (vibrance, fill light, ect.) that are lacking in ACR?

If you have LR installed, the correct version of ACR should be on your system and the answer would be yes. Just make sure your "settings" in ACR is set to "Image Settings". This should automatically import any like-named XMP file. You can import it if you'd like to make sure, but it does work.
