I watched the movie "300" last night and the gloomy effect on the entire movie was great. How would I achieve this? I'm sure they shot the entire movie with a filter on the camera, right?

Sepia with a layer desaturated over the original... or something close to that. It's all done in post processing. (post edit)

Here's what I came up with off the top of my head... it needs much more prep though, including levels adjust and noise to achieve the desired effect...

It's shot normally and then processed with an effect known as "Bleach bypass"

That plugin works beautifully. I tried it on a hand full of images and absolutely love it.

The entire movie was shot on a soundstage and all the backgrounds were CG, I'm not sure that's something that can be easily replicated with just a filter or plugin...

Post an image and I'll run it through... then you can decide if it's worth going back to XP. ;)

Haha! My dad is thinking about upgrading one of his PCs. There is a pretty good deal at Dell in the business section but it comes with Vista Home Basic. I keep trying to convince him to buy the PC and then RE-install his current version of XP Pro. He isn't quite convinced...yet!:)

I'm actually thinking about getting a MBP to run WinXP on. I hate all the glossy PC screens and love the MBP's. I just setup a friend's MBP (w/OSX) and love it... but I have about $20k worth of software that I have to think about. The reviews/tests with MBP's running WinXP show it smoking everything on the market - period. I just have to sell off my field HP first.

Yeah, I've heard from techies to avoid Vista Home Basic... it's obviously stripped down from the premium versions, and is usually offered only when the computer components aren't up to snuff for the Premium edition.

Also, I heard that even though its stripped down version, that on a machine that not up to snuff, it will run noticably slower than Windows XP... so you basically get the WORST of both worlds.... stripped down Vista interface AND decreased performance from XP!
