Hi everyone...

Just curious to know if anyone has bought anything from Maxsaver.net... My niece accidently cracked my Hoya Pro 1 Digital S-HMC 77mm CPL... I need to purchase another one, but don't want to spend another $175+ for it... My niece said could save up for one and pay me back, but I told her that it was an accident and I'll buy a new one...

Anyhoo, I came across Maxsaver.net from doing some research and they had the exact one for $105 and some change... Hence this thread on the company... Any info, good or bad would be greatly appreciated... Thanks in advance!

I've never done business with them and I 'm not sure I would. For whatever it's worth, I looked them up on http://www.resellerratings.com (external link) and they have a rating of 5 out of 10 for the last 6 months as well as their lifetime rating. If you compare this to some of the larger, more popular merchants like B&H, Adorama, Canoga, Amazon, etc. there is a drastic difference, with the ones I just mentioned showing ratings of 8 and above, some extremely high. These ratings are taking into account things like customer service, reliability, return/exchange policy and packing/shipping.

I tend to stay away from any merchant that does not have 8 or better.

airbutchie,
Here there are many people that seem happy with them -
http://www.photography-on-the.net/forum/showthread.php?t=186048

I just purchased a Hoya R72 77mm IR filter (+ 2 b+w filters) from them as it was $190+/- less then B&H and seeing how others seemed happy I went for it (hope it goes ok  ).

Surprised at those ratings :-( I have bought from them and not problem at all. Would do it again no problem. Another previous thread to that posted above was favourable.

All my Hoya Pro1 and B&W filters are from them. Never a single problem in fact I just ordered another 82mm Pro1 last week. There are only two reviews on reseller ratings - not enough to go by.

I've bought 3 filters, on 3 seperate occasions, from them without any problems. I'd recommend them.

Looks like I jumped the gun. Funny, I was looking so intently at the rating and overlooked the fact that there were only 2 reviews. I retract my statement about not doing business with them. At this point I wouldn't hesitate to buy from this merchant.

Just to chime in, I've purchased a couple filters from them and had no problems at all. I also saved a couple hundred dollars, so can't complain about that either. They're the ONLY place I'll ever buy from where the prices truly do seem "too good to be true".

Surprised at those ratings :-(

I am not, given they have only had two reviews, the margin of error is ±3.5! As a rating goes that one is statistically meaningless because the sample is far too small. It is like tossing a coin twice, getting heads both times, and deducing from that it will never land tails side up.

They appear to only have been added to the resellerratings database recently, but I would recommend people read the two reviews instead:
http://www.resellerratings.com/store/Maxsaver (external link)

Personally even reading the negative one gives me a lot more confidence in the store as it seems the issue was they read the extra instructions added by the seller (which sadly many dealers do not), and as they could not meet them they refunded the money.

Edit: Sorry, I missed TMR Design's reply above so I am duplicating what he said.

Michael.

Comments, bribes, criticism, bribes, irrelevant anecdotes, and bribes always welcome.
EXIF is available inside all my photos, though bribes are still recommended anyway.
