PowerShot and higher speeds

Do the PowerShots (specifiacally s500) support the higher speeds of the faster Compact Flash Cards?
I'm wondering if my s500 would support a card like the Lexar Media 256 MB 40x CompactFlash Pro. Or would I be wasting money for speeds the camera does not support?

I'm afraid it's a waste of money. There are few camera's supporting the higher speed cards, and those are the higher priced one's like the SLR's ?!

EOS 350D/Rebel XT, Sigma 18-125 & 55-200mm.
