Has anyone had any experiance on lighting gold leaf lettering on jars or tins?
I thought the wine bottle thing was tricky but trying for even, non reflective illumination of close up text in gold is also proving awkward.

Please provide a picture and ill tell ya how to fix it.

First thing I can think of would bouncing the light off of a white reflector / foam core. A big enough one will give you a unison white "reflection" instead of a flash hot spot.

Glass backlit too, I forgot to mention.
Lettering about 3 inches across, five on some of the jelly jars.

Don't worry about it mate I have sorted it. Two shots. First shot backlit with label underexposed. I then marked position on the simulator paper and sprayed the bottles label with dulling spray. Replaced the bottle on the mark and shot using a straightforward (but boring) 45 degree two strobe setup. Then dropped label onto original pic in p/shop. Result! :)
Managed to keep a kind of 'gold look' this way/.

Try lighting it from overhead, reflectors (foam core so its long not round) on each side, and bounce a light from behind and above off a reflector onto the label. You might save lots of PS time.

Always figure out which is quicker, a good setup or PS'ing. I am not sure if this set up will give you the results you want, but should take only minutes and you might be surprised.

That would be more ideal. I'll give it a shot thanks. I would rather get the shot 'out of the cam' Thanks again
