Sarah, excellent shots, like no 138 best.
Tip, when taking side on shots try slowing the shutter speed down. 1/250th - 1/400th depending how fast the bikes are going, the bike and rider will not look frozen, this will have the affect of blurring the back ground, wheels and discs.

Cheers

Sarah, I agree with Nick. You have some nice sharp shots with some great color. Some are a bit over exposed but thats ok. You did a fine job on the framing as well. But do try slowing the shutter speed, shooting in TV and AI Servo so that you can capture some motion in the wheels of the bike and in the back ground. Thanks for sharing these. Nicely done.

For a first effort you have done really well, but I agree totally with Nick about shutter speed, you have to get some movement into the shots to give them life.

With the exposure, it looks like the lighting was fairly harsh but move around the track to get each location at the best time, it's a great way to get fit :-), always try to get the light filling in underneath when the bike is leaned over.

Great first effort, keep practicing.

I think those are incredible shots for her first time.... major thumbs up?

what camera, what settings , and can someone slowly ( for us newbies ) explain the shutter speed etc for such shots? to save us from diving into photography books for like 6 mths?

what is the diff between ACTION setting and TV for example? the XTi instructions say to use the ACTION figure setting for fast moving object shots.

Mike,

Show off! I always like your work.

OP, you also did an excellent job. I need to go to some track events and try this out.

Looks great! Let me know if you want to come out again. My versions:

Aww MIke I didn't know you came on here. ITs like a second home to me here.

I may consider coming out there again. I had a blast.

Nice shots!

You can also enhance your photos by turning the camera 30-45 degrees in either direction.
