Alan927, I just posted a bunch of pictures to a bunch of riders from a track day I did and said here are some shots, enjoy!
I had 500 views on these pictures, I took about 15% of the pictures on an angle and I had only one comment.....

This is the entire note
"How about taking pics that are level with the horizion??"

My response was kept to the most professional side, but I had soooo many rude responses, My first was "Is your wife sick of the missionary position yet?"
among several others!!!!!

just out of curiosity, when would you ever use 1/4000 ? I see that as a max setting on the XTi

Meaning, when most guys are saying 1/500 to 1/320 to 1/200 for high speed action shots... when would 1/4000 ever come into play?

I can't think of anytime when shooting bikes or cars that I would use anywhere near 1/4000, 1/500 is about as fast as I go and even then that is unusual...

thanks guys..... so for tomorrow with the base kit lens 18-55mm I think, I know I'll have to get very close and use the tripod (with no IS lenses yet ) so are you all pretty much in agreement to go 1/500 to 1/320 , increase the brightness a bit for snow and shoot in TV mode ?

and why won't the ACTION SPORTS mode capture things in dead slow motion? all other settings according to the guide book for that automatic setting are close to manual ...

Sports mode thinks your shooting a runner, not something going 150mph! Gives you more control, to increase or decrease as you see fit.

ok... tomorrow I'll try the AL SERVO mode, with 1/500 and touch up the white brightness for the snow... will use continuous picture mode unless taking a still shot .. after all the help this week and reading the manual over 3 times as suggested I have a handle ( I think ) on what apperature and all that mumbo jumbo means in relation to light and shutter speed etc..... time will tell.

thanks guys

Sports mode defaults to ISO 400. The camera will then select the highest possible shutter speed for the lighting conditions at the time. So if there's anything approaching reasonable daylight, the shutter speed will be way too high for cars or bikes.

Mike, I did one track day last year. I went for my friends, 4 fun, and a year later, I want to go for business!!! I have since found a site to host and sell my pictures. I wanted to know, in general, how many sales you get per event? How many pictures do you take in a day, let alone post for sale? Do you post a like 5 of each rider or something like that?
The Track Day I was at had 3 groups, 20 riders in each.
Thanks for any advice or help!
Leon

I am like you too, like my day job, like sporting events like the bikes. The pictures I put up was just a test, I did not go there to take pictures of anyone but me 2 friends, then people start talking to you a boom...you know the rest.
You do take great pictures, that is fact! How many bikers have bought a rear picture of themselves? I always want to find different angels and views...
Thanks again
have a great nite, 1am here, OUT!
