I was busily shooting lillies, when i noticed this native bee floundering in the yellow center. He managed to clamber out, and i took these shots.

Hi Tina,

the flower looks like it's an illustration rather than a photo. Did you use a special processing technique?

Colors of the flower are fantastic, and nice contrast with the bee.

thankyou very much guys.

no special technique merv, the flowers are like that. I think i only used levels and usm for this, the colours were vivid enough on their own. And i blurred the background.

I don't mean to draw negative attention if this is real, but I've been studying it, and see many indications that this is Photoshop. First, it looks like there's some kind of fog in the center of the flower. Also, the bees (especially the one on the left) look like they aren't really there. The lighting and focus is different from the flower (focus and sharpness in first and second pic is clearly different). You'll also notice that the bee in the third pic is much larger than the other ones, spanning the width of the petal it's standing on. Also, the center of the flower seems partially cartoon-shaded. And finally, the odds that a bug would crawl up the wing of a bee, especially sideways like that, without the bee caring, is extremely slim. Also, you can only see 3 of its legs... the other 3 should be visible through the wing, but they aren't there.

Again, sincere apologies if this is for real, but I really, really don't think it is.

Well captured, Tina.
Definitely a unique picture!

And definitely real.
I think what gives it a slightly unreal appearance is the very uniform lighting (ie little/no shadowed areas), vibrant colours and, what I'm guessing was, a fairly heavy dose of USM.
I would've guessed the shadow/highlight tool may have been used.

I don't see how you find it so easy to say that... I'm also inclined to be more suspicious, since you're both from Brisbane, Australia.

Again, sincerest apologies if it IS for real, but I'm just not feeling it yet.

 You think I'm colluding with Tina to try and convince people that a Photoshopped pic is a real one?

I do solemnly swear that that is not the case ;) ;)

I bet you're really suspicious now :)
