Hensel setup

Okay it is time to purchase some lighting equipment. I am tired of not having any and I love the studio environment.

I was wondering if this setup would be sufficient. I have never used strobes, only hot lights (mole-richardsons).

I would have said yes a couple months ago, but I have two hensels and often set up my 580ex and wish I had more lights/control.

You're going to wind up wanting a better softbox or at least a gridded softbox.

I now have two alienbee b800s on the way that I'll use with barndoors for BG or a hair light. And when my supplier gets more hensels in I'm going to pick up two more of them as well.

Umbrella's spill light everywhere and the modifiers you get from hensel are garbage anyhow.

I'm not saying you can't get good shots with that package, or even just one light and a reflector... it just limits you is all.

If you're sure you want to start this adventure, be prepared to triple that package's price in the next 6 months as you progress and want/need more out of your setup.

I have 4 of the Hensel 500 Integra Pros and I love them The 300w modeling lights are great for WYSIWYG viewing. I ordered the 3 light set and an extra light and 2 barndoors. I use this setup with a Scott Smith diffusion panel instead of spending a fortune on softboxes. I do have the small 18x26 softbox that came with the kit and the 20degree grid and a bunch of reflectors. I think you could get by pretty well with a diffusion panel, the umbrellas and a couple of reflectors. You will really like the quality of the Hensels. I looked at Profoto and others and decided Hensels was the best value for me.

all in all Hensel is always a good choice that you can not go wrong with. Get some barn doors w/ them though

I like them. Still want to use them more. Just didn't get enough time ...
