Thinking about getting one and I am so torn. I will be using it in many different situations. (indoor, outdoor, close, far) and price is a factor. I have read so many reviews and they are all so close in pros and cons. So, I've elected to ask the audience. What to you have or covet out of these? I threw the Tokina fish in for kicks, since I have been looking at fishes too.

If price is a factor, buy the Sigma. It performs optically on par with the Canon, comes with a longer warranty, hood, pouch, and it doesn't need a slim circular polarizer. The price difference becomes even greater if you buy it through Sigma4less, but then you lose your extended USA warranty.

don't forget the Tonika 12-24 F4 that is known to be a good lens and is has a fixed app.

I got a good deal on the canon so I went with that..

Another vote for Tokina 12-24, which you didn't list.

If price is a factor, get the sigma. It's a fantastic lens, comes with hood and case, and is pretty much as good as the Canon version. The Canon is slightly better in how it deals with flare, and that is pretty much it - oh, and of course the crucial 21-22mm range !

When I'm in the market for one of these, it will be the sigma. the other third party lenses are really too limited in range. And the sigma ticks all the boxes in terms of IQ, HSM, build quality AND price!

Tokina 12-24 ... fantastically sharp, built like a tank, and the simplest switching between manual and auto focus there is.

If you are looking for a lens that will probably never give you any issues I would get the Canon 10-22. I have issues with other mfg's that I won't budge from getting Canon lens over any ( I don't want to be cliche') 3rd party lenses that I won't even look at any other mfg's of lenses. THAT IS ME! Look at what you are willing to spend and how your feel. The Canon's are going to be the most expensive. They will give you a reliable picture every time though. Do what feel right to you. I suggest you try all them and make your own decision. They are all good lenses if you like them and they do what you want them too...

I LIKE CANON! . (That's just me)

I love my sigma, which is a bit less expensive than Canon, but all I have researched points to Canon having a little less distortion at the wide end of the focal range (which may not mean much, as the distortion should be pronounced in either lens). Sigma EX is all Metal lens, great build, definitely not a bad choice.

If I had to buy it all again today, I would probably go with Canon, but that's because of me, not the lens.

Good luck, and either lens will not leave you dissapointed.

Since I've gotten the Canon 10-22, it's been on my camera longer than my "L" lenses. I just love this lens! I have no experiences with other lenses listed on the poll, so that's all I can say...

Though have neither the Canon nor the Sigma, you did ask what you covet. I choose Canon for the simple reason that I have in the past has issues with lenses. Both times my issues were with Canon lenses and both times Canon's first question was what lens I had attached. Once they heard Canon, they bent over backwards to help. One of my photo partners had issues with a Sigma, (err99) and it took much more effort to resolve the problem. In his case, it was the lens and Sigma made good but his effort and mine were worlds apart.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.

Yet another non-poll vote for the Tokina 12-24. Sharp, built like an L, and just a joy to use.
