Lighting COnundrum

Hello Folks,

I want to set up my black background and put a light on the groud shining up to create a lit background than I want the Shadow of the model on the background...

what are your suggestions to accomplish this...

It is almost a contradiction of requirements. You take a black background and if you put enough light on it it'll turn grey. Then you need to light something with enough brightness so that it'll show a recognizable shadow on the (now) grey backdrop.

Why don't you start with a white or light grey backdrop in the first place? Then you won't have to light it. It'll be roughly the same grey as the properly lit black background, without much pain. Then you can light the subject and have that subject's shadow fall on the background. If the shadow is black and the background grey or white then there should be some contrast. Starting with a black background for this just doesn't make sense.

well I am going to try to do it with the white background first...which I assume is as simple as pointing the light from the front and not blowing out the back...
