There's all kinds of cheap webhosting these days - who to use and what to 'get' depends a lot on what you want and what you expect/hope the site traffic will be and what you can afford. That and the tech help. I use a webhost that isn't the cheapest or the fastest, but it's rarely "down" and the tech support and response time is outstanding. I've stuck with him for several years now. :D

I don't know if I have any big suggestions. IMO most of the "cheap" hosts are just that - cheap. They'll work, but you may find them frustrating in the long run. One other thing to consider is how technically proficient/experienced you are. Webhosts with user panels and things like Fantastico that install some software packages w/out you having to do anything but push buttons is good for those who know nothing when they start. If you're not afraid of FTP/installing your own programs and making your own sites, then the skies wide open.

I've never used Photoshop to make sites, so can't judge that - I still type some pages out by hand in Notepad, or else I use a pre-made gallery/photo blog software; usually open sourced like Coppermine or 4Images, and modify it to my needs as much my limited skill level and the program allows. If you aren't planning on having 1000's of images in your gallery, something like pixelpost, zenphoto, or another "photo blog" program might work well too.

i have been using powweb (external link) for 3 years now. Never had problems with them - uptime 99.99%. Tons, and tons of space. Ftp support, picture publishing from Internet Explorer into Gallery, provides support for many photo gallery and web software but you can install your own. 24x7 support by phone and online chat.

I tried powwow and agree - they're pretty good. If I ever need a huge amount of diskspace/bandwidth w/out high prices I might try them again.

It's been a while since I've researched host companies specifically - I've been too happy w/who I have. I'm not sure I should recommend him because he's not cheap, and most people are looking for the mostest for the cheapest. :)

Last I knew, the unlimited bandwidth sales pitch was not actual true unlimited bandwidth - read the fine print carefully for limitations/restrictions to make sure they aren't ones you don't want/can't live with. They probably won't be for most people ... just sayin'.

I use dreamhost.com,

Try using the discount code "777" when signing up for the 1yr host+domain plan, and if it still works it'll only be like 9.99 or something like that for the whole year! If it does work, and you do happen to go w/ them, do me a favor and use me as your referal (iiimik3) :D

I use Host Gator. I have only been with them for a month or so, but they have yet to be down, and they are EXTREMELY responsive when you have problems. Unlimited domains, 100GB of space, 200GB/transfers for 9.95/month.
They also have a cheaper 6.95 plan. They appear to be plenty fast enough for what I need.
