... the 85/1.2 MKII ?
Hi guys,
don't know if that is just my impression, but I have been following for a while the used prices of my dream lens, the Canon EF 85/1.2 L. And to me, it seems that prices have gone up quite a bit recently...
When the 85/1.2 L II was presented, I hoped that the used prices of the original version would be going down a bit, but so far it looks to me as if
- there are virtually no lenses on the used market
- the used prices have maybe actually gone up ...
The cheapest place where the 85/1.2 II is now available in Germany charges about EUR 1750 (USD 2,300!!!) for it, and there are no cheaper offers. If I remember correctly, the old 85/1.2 retailed for EUR 1500 (USD 2,000) with occasional cheaper offers.
If I browse eBay nowadays, there is hardly a single used EF 85/1.2 L MKI offered for less than EUR 1,400 (that is about USD 1850
).
OK, at this moment, there's one for sale in Germany with 'cleaning marks on front element' and 'bruises on lens barrel' for EUR 1200 ($ 1580
), but while those possibly really don't have any influence on image quality, they will certainly affect resale value and when I shell out that amount of money for a lens, I'd personally rather have either a 'mint' one or a more substantially discounted lens in 'less-than-mint' condition.
OK, that was my rant.
Is it just me that has this impression or is there really an evil conspiracy?
Or is it just - again - us European Canon users getting shafted royally?
Best regards,
Andy
