Practiced holding 5kg weight lifting dumbells to simulate the weight of the 500 plus camera.... it is possible to hand hold for up to about 30 sec, but you will need a good rest between shots ( although my shoulder is O.K ), Not sure what I will eventually do regarding monopod etc, ............ You'll never regret buying this lens. While the 300 f2.8 is great glass, you will always wish you had the extra reach of the 500. Also, I keep a 1.4x on my 500 f4 all the time and results are razor freakin sharp.
