Anybody recommend a good lens for car shows, both indoor and outdoor. Does IS help, and is it worth the extra money?

Infact, I had a 20D and a Canon 10-22 at the time and that never came off the camera. Infact, I felt at times it wasn't even wide enough. When there are tons of people and the isles are so narrow, you would have a hard time taking photos with anything longer. Wide angle, a must...Flash, sometimes...I took most of these in Seattle with out a flash at 2.8. Next on my list is a wide angle...2.8 hopefully! No longer actively shooting...
