Not speaking from experience but... if you search the forum you will find most/allot of people think the difference is too little to matter.

Differences are...
1)The Opteka button 'feels' different. (Canon generally thought to be the better)
2)Some people have reported losing power to camera. Usually resolved removing and replacing grip.

About 90-95% of the grip for 50% of the price. As Reefbone said, do a search. Lots of threads and some good side by side comparisons.

I read that the Opteka has a plastic feel (BG-E2 model). Is there any rubber on the Genuine Canon version?

I have the Opteka. For the money you save it was something I questioned, too... after I used it for several weeks, I was sure I made the right choice.

I have felt both on the XT and I cant tell any CONSIDERABLE difference. Yes there are differences but if someone were to put one on w/o you knowing you wouldnt be able too tell the diff between the two. Thats the feel, now as for the buttons, there are some minor differences but nothing Im going to solve by doubling the price.

Ive had mine for less than a week and I love it.

I had the Opteka on my XT for about one year. I used the heck out of it.. it never had any problem of any kind. It stayed on the camera the whole time, never came off. When I sold the camera - through here btw - the buyer got himself a great camera with a perfectly good grip on it. I have large hands, and with a smaller sized light camera body like the XT - the grip was perfect. Recommended without hesitation.

I own the Opeka grip and it has never came off my XTi, My best friend got the anon one at the same time. After useing both there is no major difference IMHO. The shutter release is a tad 'softer' on the Opeka grip is all I've noticed.

I got mine from here, with 2 batteries, for under $100--and that included the shipping. I was very pleased with the service and quality.

Read my review that I just did on the one that 47th St sells. This is a VERY VERY different model the the Canon BG-E2(N) mold. I am actually in the process of returning mine as we speak (got it yesterday) as the shutter release buttons do not work AT ALL due to a faulty switch. However that is not the only reason for my returning it.
