I want to get my first flash for my 30D and wondered if I would be happy starting with a used 420 flash. Any thoughts on that?

This web page (external link)has full specifications and features of all Canon flash units. You can even create tables of specific units for comparison.

The 420EX is E-TTL only and has no manual capabilities, but will get the job done for most purposes.
