OK get your mind out of the gutter ;) I am attending my first photography workshop this weekend. I have a DYI flash diffuser I made using the Black and White foamies (better bounce card modified). I have only had my flash a couple weeks so still very new with it. My question is am I gonna look like the biggest dork on planet earth if I put this thing on my camera while at this workshop or should I just leave it in the bag??? I know the object is to take as good a pic as I can and to learn but I would just hate to make everyone there jealous when they see I have one of babies!

I sure hope you're joking. If it works for you, who cares what anybody else thinks? Leave it in the bag.

Whip it out, it can't look any more ridiculous than a photoflex, a lightsphere, or...gary fong's latest, the whale tail ! Everyone knows direct flash isn't all that, and plain old bouncing is like saying, "hey, I never leave my low ceiling house.";)

Show them how much it will improve your shots. Then sell them for $45 each ($5 cheaper than the Fongsphere).

Seriously, it's not how you make a diffuser that matters as much as the understanding of how it works.

No actually I am serious just asking in a humorous way. I know lots of you guys are able to go out on the street shoot strangers and never worry about anything. I have only been shooting seriously now for maybe 9, 10 months. At first I used to get very embarrassed even taking pics in public. I would wait till traffic passed or no one was looking before I would go around the yard taking pics while practicing. I have over come all that now and could care less that they see me taking pics as it gives me great pleasure when I nail one. I just didn't want to look to silly in front of a group strangers but more importantly to the pro using something homemade.
