Hi Everyone

This is the busiest forum I have ever seen can't believe how popular the cameras are now I've just gone digital this last 7 months and still struggle with all the buttons last camera works great but cost me fortune to develop the pictures after my last trip.

Anyway I will need to get pictures from camera to computer I tried for 5 hours to day switched off left camera without battery for 5 minutes reset computer several times and used 6 different leads but every time it said check connection.
Everything else works on the leads like the kids gadgets but the camera is flashing busy but wont down load I noticed that the orange light only flashes 2 or 3 times then it sits busy with nothing happening any ideas.

Sorry for the long rambling hope you can help thanks.

Highlander1 or John or JB anything goes

If you have a CF card reader on your computer, simply turn off the camera, remove the CF card and insert it into your card reader. You should see a set of options which will include one that says "open folder and view contents." select that and after double clicking you will see a line that says DCIM or something similar. Double click on it and you will see another folder that says canon. Double click on it and you will see your pics. Also if using windows when the card reader 1st opens window it will give you an option to "view contents". Double click on it.

Best thing is to buy a Card Reader. Only about $25-$35. Then insert card and plug USB of Card Reader into your computer. It is faster and more foolproof.

Card reader. Easier, faster, and less problematic.

Thanks

I am a dinosaur on computers so please bear with me what is the CF card and where is it to be found do I take the thing to bits have you a picture. I live in a remote area and have a 60 mile round trip for bread and milk so paying someone or sending the computer away is not a real option we need it for our B&B.

I want to use the camera every day.

Cheers

First off, what kind of camera? Have you downloaded pictures before with this camera? If not, have you installed the software that came with the camera, and read the manual? CF stands for compact flash, it is the memory card that goes in to the little slot on your camera. Depending on the camera, it may not be a cf card, could be sd (secure digital), or memory stick. Concept is the same, remove card, plug it in to a usb card reader, and windows (assuming you're on a pc, not a mac) will see the memory card as just another drive.

Thanks for reply

I have used the camera almost every day and taken hundreds of pictures normally I plug into the usb port switch camera on and then a screen comes up do you wish to view select or down load it's the zoom browser ex.

The soft ware was supplied with the camera a canon 350d EOS.

Sometimes it takes for ever to down load my graphics card is a 512 and the computer guy installed a hard drive exterior to put all pictures on instead of filling the computer it's a freecom 100 GB.

thanks JB

Yes, using a CF reader is the fastest, most convenient way to download, however, the camera/computer connection should work with no problem. From your quote above, the question comes to mind, are you using the cable that came with the camera? Are you plugging it into the correct port on either end? That alone could be the problem. Did you properly install the software that came with the camera? Your computer may not necessarily recognize the camera like it would a disk drive, and so you will need the software to do that.

Are the usb ports working with other devices? If they are, it might be a bad connector on the camera (another reason for a usb card reader). If other usb devices also aren't working, try going in to device manager and deleting the usb ports. Restart your computer and it will rebuild the usb ports. Good luck.

bannedPermanent ban

Did you check Communication settings on your camera?
It should be on PC Connection.

Press MENU, using <- or -> buttons navigate to Settings 2 icon (yellow tab with wrench&hammer).
If it’s on Print/PTP press Set and change it to PC Connection.

You can get grainy pictures with XT too!
Easily, no problems with that.. :D

I agree with everyone, you should get a CF/Multicard reader. Helps out...
