I believe I have a young lady (older than me by 1yr but I digress) lined up for some on location photography. I do not intend to make money off of this, I simply want to get some experience. This will be the frst person I have done a session with that has not been a friend or family member.

So with that said should I watermark the photos or leave them be? She was simply a waitress who I thought would be great doing portraits with, and after talking to her, she seemed to go for it. A very sweet girl. I will put some of the photos on my site so others can see but like I stated, they arent for sale.

Unless Im wrong, can you resize the photos so they still meet the ratio requirements (i.e. 8x10 5x7 4x6) using elements 5? Say I want to change the composition with a crop how do I get it to still fit the print size requirements without having fingers and such cutout?
I intend on giving her a cd of the pics.

Any help would be, well helpful:p

I would think it's a little touchy, but she might have to sign some paperwork, that states that the images are yours, and that you are in no way liable. There's gotta be someone with some legalese on this situation...but I would make her sign a waiver...of some sort, so you are not held liable, if it ever comes to it.

As for the watermarks, add them to the pictures for the web, and for the ones for her CD, don't. I think that is simple enough. Oh, and you might also want to let her know, that you might be using these, on the web.

Good luck with the shoot.

Shoot for an 8x10 crop and everything else should work from there. So looking at the frame in portrait mode, you'd be losing about 10% from both the top and bottom of the frame.

Yeah I told her I would put them on the web for others to see but my intentions are not to make money from them.

If I am going to have her sign a waiver should she get a copy too or is one needed just for me?

I would give her one, and keep one with you. Take a photocopy of the one that is signed by both you and her. This way, you are both safe.

The above outline describes the arrangement, and puts a fw lines in there to outline the "trade" you can say "10 each 4x6" prints, and a CD with usable images" or whatever you want.

It isnt mine, but i copied it off a public offering, and made a couple minor changes.

Hope you can use it.

you both will sign and date both copies, you keep one and give one to her.

Here was one that looked less intimidating since she isnt using them for any type of model work.

MODEL RELEASE: ADULT

I, _______________ (Model),
for good and valuable consideration, the receipt of which
is acknowledged, give to _______________(Photographer), his
legal representatives, successors, and all persons or corporations
acting with his permission, unrestricted permission to copyright
and/or use, and/or publish photographic portraits or pictures of
me, and the prints, or digital information pertaining to them, in still
format, or in which I may be included in whole or in part,
or composite, or distorted in form, or reproductions thereof, in
color or otherwise, made through any media in his studio or
elsewhere for art, or any other lawful purpose.

I hereby waive any right that I may have to inspect and
approve the finished product or copy that may be used in connection
with an image that the Photographer has taken of me, or the use to
which it may be applied.

I further release the Photographer, or others for whom he is
acting, from any claims for remuneration associated with any form
of damage, foreseen or unforseen, associated with the proper
commercial or artistic use of these images unless it can be shown
that said reproduction was maliciously caused, produced and
published for the sole purpose of subjecting me to conspicuous
ridicule, scandal, reproach, scorn and indignity.

I acknowledge that the photography session was conducted in a
completely proper and highly professional manner, and this release
was willingly signed at its termination. I certify that I am not
a minor, and am free and able to give such consent.

Yes?No? on this one? Im wondering if it could scare her off the more technicallities I put into it. I would like it simple yet to the point.

Ive slightly altered the one Mike posted, and made it more appealing, at least what I would think to her it would be. I might merge the two a lil later who knows. Thanks.

Don't forget a date line. I know you meant for both people to date it on the sig line but put a date line so you don't forget to put the date.

Howabout letting her get prints made for herself or family or boyfreind? She might have a problem if she tries to get them printed at walmart.

And if I tried this, my wife wouldn't kick my @$$, she'd kick me in the crotch.
