Many of you have complained about delivery problems. Try this one...

I live in a very rural area. My mailbox is about a mile from my home.

Mail deliver is erratic. Sometimes, the mail is delivered around 12:30, sometimes around 2:30, and sometimes as late as 4:30. There is no rhyme or reason to this non-schedule.

The best of all, though, was Tuesday, the day before yesterday. I was expecting a very important letter which should have arrived by Monday, but didn't. On Tuesday, starting at about 1:00, I checked the mail every hour. It never came. When I called the carrier at the post office at 7:00 the next morning (a time when they are in the P.O. sorting the mail), he said I didn't get any mail because he "never got around to it" on Tuesday.

And this is the U.S. Postal Service we're talking about!

And you guys think UPS, FedEX, and DHL are bad....

Oh, the joys of rural living in southeastern Arizona!

We have had some success dealing with substandard post office performance by calling our congressman. I would seriously suggest that. What you describe is unacceptable.

I have talked with the postmaster here. He would love to can several of the carriers. The trouble is that there are very few people in the area willing to work as carriers. If he cans someone, there is no-one to take his/her place.

A very small work force is another joy of rural life.
