So people have been out of stock for more than 2 weeks and now it said "DISCONTINUED"
B&H etc.

So I called, and apparently it's under a new model # AND a choice of White or Black at $143 - used to be $113.

CATMRA2W 1 TRIP MONT RNG A-2 (W)f/EF 70-2

IS this a hint at a new product? that it's a choice of Black ? and a price increase?

Any thoughts?

I have no reservations in recommending this less costly but very good quality alternative: http://www.pbase.com …s/image/70883547/original (external link)

Will it fit on the non IS version?

My guess is no. It says it also fits the 300 f/4. I have the 300 and the ring it comes with is way to big for my 70-200 f/4 non-is.

$.02

Just called Canon and apparently they still make it and they have it in stock $118
I just thought it was strange that B&H showed it out of stock and now as discontinued.

And Canon did say best to use the specified collar which is fine by me since it's less expensive.

Slight moment of panic:)

Yes.

Definately some confusion here gentlemen..

I have already made the mistake of buying a similar item on eBay and it most definately only fits the 70-200mm 2.8 IS model along with the 300mm prime and the 400mm f.5.6

I have it sat in front of me here and far too big for the 70-200mm f.4

I'm still confused. I have a Ring A (W) that was supplied with my 400 5.6.
It does fit - was (is) attached to the lens.
Now you are saying a Ring B will fit the 400 5.6. So Canon makes 2 rings (Ring A , Ring B) but they both fit the same lens? See why I'm confused?

I have indeed made a mistake here Dave, The tripod ring I have here fits the 70-200mm 2.8L IS. It also fits the 100-400mm zoom lens.

Sorry for the confusion Dave, My fault..;)

I need clarification on the model for the 70-200mm F.4L which still has me baffled..

No worries , I was fairly confident , just being diplomatic. :)
The Ring A(W) is also specified by Canon as the ring for the 70-200 F4.
It also fits the 200 2.8 prime , but if you like colour coordination the Ring A (B) is better for the 200 prime as it's black.

Unfortunately for me , my ring A(W) does not fit my 70-200 F4 very well. (it does not tighten completely) It tightens on the 200 prime and the 400 prime..

The battery is flat in my digital calipers. I've been meaning to get a new battery so I can measure the barrels to see what the difference in diameter is.

Just to clarify further (or perhaps add more confusion), the Canon ring supplied with the 300f/4L IS will not fit the 70-200f/4L NON-IS. I have both and it's not even close.

If the ebay ring pictured in the link above fits the 300f/4L IS (as it states), it would not fit the 70-200f/4L NON-IS. I don't see how it would. It's way too big.
