Sensor cleaning with Discofilm

One of the podcasts I listen to, Tips From the Top Floor has a really interesting method of cleaning our camera sensors using a gooey substance normally used for cleaning vinyl records.

It does take a lot longer to do it this way, so it's not meant to be done in te field or if you're in a hurry, but it still sounds pretty neat to me! Not sure if I'm brave enough to try it but maybe someone here has had some experience with it?

I watch/listen to TFTTF too and I thought that method was interesting but I would be hesitant using it without some evidence of long term use to ensure that it will not damage the sensor over time.

Having said that it sounds pretty safe. Apparently it is completely solvent free and is just water based. I think my biggest concern would be something seeping down around the edges of the glass and actually getting on the sensor or in sensitive places, however I suppose that this is possible using any of the other standard cleaning methods where some type of liquid is used.

I like the concept of having something to actually grab the dust and pull it off. If anyone has the guts to try it themselves, make sure you post your results (and where to find the stuff in North America)!

Thinking along those lines, I wonder if there is some form of sticky film that might do the trick?

There is a similar product, well at least the method is similar specifically designed for digital sensors. I just ordered it for my camera at work and am waiting to try it out. It looks real interesting though. Check out this link. "click me"

you could try flypaper.

gjl711: oooh yeah, I heard about this too, this looks pretty good but I wonder if there's ever the chance that the adhesive will come off the backing and stick to the sensor?
