Took Liam to the museum today. I thought this one was nice. C&C, please.

My two cents...I don't really get the feeling that the animal is working in the composition; the child and the animal seem to be two unrelated subjects. I'm more interested in what Liam is looking at. Maybe it's out of focus that is taking my attention away from the animal.

Nice shot of Liam, but the moose has got to go. It's out of focus and does not contribute. (Seems to be an echo in here:lol:)

I think it has potential, I like the way that both the moose and Liam seem to be looking at the same thing. I'd maybe alter the composition so the moose wasn't directly above (maybe to the right having it look over his shoulder) and of course have it a bit more in focus.

No matter how much you learn, there's always someone who knows more.

I don't mind the moose being OOF and like the image but it would be much more powerful taken at a different angle. Right now the moose and the kid look stacked on top of one another - I would have liked to see the kid more to the left of the photo (since he seems much too centered). A careful selection of the child in PP will take care of this.

Thanks for all your responses. I am not crazy about how the moose is OOF either, although I was shooting in a low light situation w/out flash so had to use a very wide aperture. I am new to this, but I am assuming this is why the moose is OOF. I like the compostion though....the moose within the frame that is.

Denovo, could you further elaborate on what you mean when you say "a careful selection in PP"?

Correct!

The larger the aperture, the shallower the depth of field - for a given focal distance.
