After the roaring success of yesterdays post I thought I'd try and learn something else about this camera.

My old AE 1 program has a back light button which when I take a picture I am able to hold down the button on the area of choice to compensate for back light.

where is it on this EOS 350D Does it have such a thing so I can take exposure from mid tone then raise up and take picture with same exposure reading.

Sorry to be so thick it's probably as obvious as putting the camera on computer mode.

thanks JB

Set your camera to Partial metering, aim it to the area that you want to take the exposure reading from and press * button (AE/FE lock).

(350D manual, page 92)

What we see depends mainly on what we look for.

I normally just
- either use fill flash
- enter exposure compensation or just
- point my camera to a slightly darker area, push the * button (with CF 4-1) and thus manually override the metering. Fastest.

With the display, I can immediately check the results and re-take the shot if not sufficient.

Best regards,
Andy

Thanks again the trouble with instruction books is they get lost as mine has. Think it went to scrap yard a few weeks ago with my old car I kept it in the car for when I was out taking pictures.

I suppose there is access to one via internet or I could order a new one. I am really not electronically switched on to computers etc, the kids buy a phone which does everything Ipods etc they throw the instructions away with the box and seem to know instinctivley how things work including computers. I have trouble sending text messages on my old brick of a phone.

I tried to post a picture of the button on my old camera last night but gave up in vain.

Cheers for the help JB

NP, we know what you are talking about. There just is not such a button on the new Canon cameras.

What I like as a quick reference (of course no real substitute for the manual) are the description of a cameras functions in the dpreview reviews: http://www.dpreview.com/reviews/canoneos350d/ (external link)

Best regards,
Andy

Click on documentation
You can then get electronic version of the manual
Hope this helps
