HELP POTN MEMBER IN NEED!!!!!!URGENT!!!!!!
Ill try to simplify this

Lenses I have:
Kit lens and a soon to be departed nifty

Reasons for purchasing:
Canon: Pros-Its canon geez. But its also a prime, fast, great quality
Cons-Prime, would leave me with the kit lens as my "walk around" lens.

Sigma: Pros-Close to the canon "brick", has constant f/# throughout. Has better range than the kit
Cons-Not the canon "brick",not sure about the IQ,would leave me with the nifty as my portrait lens which has difficulty focusing in low light which kinda renders the f/1.8 useless in some situations.

Need help, what do ya'll recommend? Id like to hear from those who have had one or the other, OR possibly both. Thanks.

They're two completely different lenses, versatile in their own right, and great lenses in their own right. I have the 85, I'm not very familiar with it yet, but I have trouble not taking a sharp picture.

I got rid of my 85mm because I had very limited use for it. I use my 24-70 every time I take my camera out. This should tell you something. Also, the IQ of the sigma 24-70 is pretty damn good:

You can't go by a poll lol. You need to pick what's best for you. Think of the uses you have for both, and then which uses are more important/you'd like to use more.

It might help me if I threw in the fact that My wishlist has the 85mm and the canon 24-70L, by getting the 85 I could knock one off the list./:)

I'd get a Tamron 17-50 first and then add the 85mm prime later. :)

Buy what will be more versatile for your shooting methods/style now and add the other later. It isn't like you're playing in the Super-telephoto price range.

I plan to buy the 50 f1.4 and 85 f1.8 down the road, but they're last on my list (unless someone gives them to me on my birthday or something). I'd rather buy what will work best for me (nature, landscape, and motorsports shooter) then fine tune on little things like low-light lenses.

but in time I will get the canon 24-70L and would think that it would be redundant to have the sigma if eventually Ill sell it.

That's the beautiful thing about this hobby/addiction - you can always sell your old stuff!

The 85mm was too long for me indoors as my primary lens. Sold it for the Tamron 17-50. Have you tried it both at a camera shop?
