Great stuff Tom!

Is it me but on the third picture seems to be a strange lighter colored bar across the front of the foreground card?

That'll be the fences getting in the way

Yeah I can see that but I'm assuming that it's a slightly thicker length of fence wire which didn't quite focus out. (edit: Dammit, typed too slow again. )

Other then that these are absolutley brilliant shots, well done.

Might see you there

I'll keep a a look out for you and that 500 today at the track. I'll be using an ancient 10D with 300f4L, and wearing a silver Lexmark Indy GP cap.

As a photographer, resolution means a lot to me. I was sure surpised to watch qualifying on TSN-HD (Canada) in 720p. I hope they show the HDTV feed tonight with ITV audio only.

people will always try to stop you doing the right thing if it is unconventional
Full frame and some primes.

Hi Tom, Great pics especially shooting through a fence, try shooting wide open you may get less fence in your pics?

Cheers

Unless you can get right up to the fence then chances are it's going to show in the shot no matter what aperture trickery you try. Given that most tracks have a secondary barrier inside the main catch fence then getting close isn't easy.

Very nice shots indeed although that pink tarmac / gravel or whatever it is makes me feel sick :D

Geoff, yes I agree although I must say I haven't seen a track in the UK with secondary barrier, Silverstone probably has but I haven't seen any from where I have been shooting?

Cheers

Good shots, but I cannot honestly recommend going to the grand prix (as a photographer). Read the terms and conditions:

http://www.grandprix.com.au …ument/00000017-source.pdf (external link)

See section 5 (q):

(q) any photographic, video or audio recording equipment AGPC deems
unacceptable for the purposes of Condition 15 below, which may include
(without limitation) audio recorders, camera tripods, monopods or lenses with a
total focal strength of greater than 300mm and digital video equipment.

and more worryingly, point 15:

15. Without limiting any action available to AGPC pursuant to the Act or any amendment
thereof, it is a condition of entry to the Event that:
(a) a person cannot make or reproduce or use any film or other form of moving
picture, still pictures, photographs or any sound recording or any of them
(Footage) of the Event or any part of it for profit, gain, public advertisement,
display or for any other purpose except for the private enjoyment of the person
making the Footage, without the consent of AGPC, FOM and / or FOA; and
(b) if a person makes or reproduces or uses such Footage of the Event or any part of
it with or without the consent of AGPC, that person must on request by AGPC
assign, in writing, all copyright and all intellectual property in the Footage to
either AGPC, FOM and / or FOA or their assignees as directed by AGPC.

Yup. Nice eh? I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be treated like an idiot, and I'm certainly not going to give the F1 circus my hard earned money for them to treat my like this. Personally, all sane photographers should boycott the grand prix.

Dave
