Heck

I boycotted watching Formula One after some of Schumachers politcs to win championships, but now with him gone, I may watch a few again, but highly doubt I will give bernie a penny of my money.

Oh and BTW, nice shots considering the place you shot from.

Geoff, yes I agree although I must say I haven't seen a track in the UK with secondary barrier, Silverstone probably has but I haven't seen any from where I have been shooting?

Most of them have some form of barrier or fence preventing you from getting right up to the larger safety fences and if you duck under to get closer you will be told to move.

Silverstone certainly has them, Brands has them at certain points and the likes of Oulton Park have a simple low wood/wire fence at strategic points.I don't know the regs but i'm guessing it's an FIA Cat 1/2 thing.
From memory Snetterton is largely devoid of these nuisances as is Croft.

An example from Brands Hatch-just as they head onto the GP Loop. It's one of the rare occasions where being trackside would have been a bit nasty. The Clio hit the tyres very hard and left a large dent in the armco !

and more worryingly, point 15:

Fairly standard T&C's to be honest. There's nothing to prevent personal use of any shots taken but if you sell them without accreditation they might chase you.

I wouldn't attend the British GP due to the cost. A weekend ticket for F1 here would finance several visits to smaller event which are much more enjoyable.

Hell, I lost interest after Senna was killed back in 94. Firstly, the entire event should have been called off (it's a FIA rule - in the event of a driver death at the event, it must be called off and an investigation done) after the late Roland Ratzenberger was killed. I believe Senna argued this with the stewards but was boycotted (they were more interested in ticket sales and money than safety). Secondly, after Senna went off, they knew he was dead on the spot (Bernie and greedy money co. would argue differently, but Ayrton's brother, Leo, swears black and blue that Bernie told him immediately that Ayrton was dead when the very first medics got to him and checkd him out). Another FIA rule is that the event is stopped and black flagged in the event of the death of a driver during the race. The results are posted as of the previous lap, ie. Senna should have been declared the winner of the San Marino grand prix of 1994.

I'll further add that Ferrari, and FISA placed deliberate pressure on the Italian magistrate handling the Senna death inquery, to find Frank Williams, the race track organisers, and FIA not guilty of any misdemeanors. Ferrari threatened to move out of Italy if they were found guilty, and FIA/FISA threatened to never hold another racing event in Italy. Corruption indeed.

After all of this, my stomach was galled by Formula 1 circus. It just isn't the same. Bernie and co. are desperate to milk every single potential ounce of dollar from the event, hence the quoted rules of entry.

Dave

Re-read the terms again. Any public display. These very forums would be legally regarded as a public display. I also note that the OP has a 400mm f5.6 lens, which is in direct trouble with rule 5(q). If the Australian grand prix organisers wanted to do so, they could easily do a DMCA take down notice of the POTN forums until it was removed (yes, after Australia agreed to the FTA, we now recognise the US DMCA laws). Of course, the POTN servers aren't located in Australia, but from a legal perspective, they could do it. Probably not worth their time and money, but anything is possible these days.

I personally detest these sorts of rules, they're intended to make money for the establishment when they've done nothing to earn it. They intend to unfairly control overs, beyond reasonable means. They intend to give preferential treatment to the "pros". Gee, the pros must be really scared and insecure if they're worried about some amateurs besting their images. I believe in competition on fair and equal ground, if I, as an amateur take a better shot than a pro, then I did my job right - picking the right location, right time, right gear etc. Why should I get penalised, and not be able to sell the image for a profit because I did a better job than the pro?

I personally doubt that these T&Cs are legally enforceable anyways, since this is an event held on a public course.

Dave

hell, I'm sick and tired of the average people being so gullible as to let all of their rights be unreasonably taken away from them. Wake up people.

Great photos especially from the crowd.

As for Dave's concerns I can see the pros and cons of both sides of this debate and probably fall more into the camp of restricting photographer's access - but rather than hijack this thread to debate this issue I'd suggest a thread in the "Talking Photography" section.

until a couple years ago i was a big champ car fan and now i've gotten into F1. i really try to put all the politics aside and take the point of view "wow that's an exciting development" it's perhaps the only way to finally enjoy racing again (i was really bitter with the champ car / IRL thing).

it all really is cool and it's so neat to see these individual racers display the skills and to see the technology! and wow to have been able to see michael schumacher in person and hit that "easy" button which suddenly suspended the laws of physics was really cool too.

Good shots, but I cannot honestly recommend going to the grand prix (as a photographer). Read the terms and conditions:

http://www.grandprix.com.au …ument/00000017-source.pdf (external link)

See section 5 (q):

and more worryingly, point 15:

Yup. Nice eh? I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be treated like an idiot, and I'm certainly not going to give the F1 circus my hard earned money for them to treat my like this. Personally, all sane photographers should boycott the grand prix.

Dave

Dave,

Yes I have read the terms & conditions before and I understand that posting these images is illegal. My intention was only to share some F1 photos with other forum members. I am a hobbyist photographer and do not make any money from my photos.

I apologise if I have offended you or anyone else on this forum by displaying these photos and shall remove them if this is the request of yourself, any other forum members and or the moderators of this site.

No, no, no! Don't remove them, they're good photos. I don't want you to remove them. I'm simply pointing out the STUPID rules of entry and how badly you're treated as a photographer.

Keep them posted, stuff the damn Australian F1 GP organisers.

Very nice photos! After your advice from last year I went to the spot where you told me about between turn 3 and 4 and got much better photos than last year. Thanks for the help.
I have a few photos here if you want to have a look at what I got on Saturday. http://www.hotkey.net.au/~rx7sv/F1GP2007/index.html (external link)

great snaps tom....lovely angles as well.

after dave's tirade, i guess shooting in Bahrain is much better than in Albert's Park. I went for the testing sessions....One needs a media pass to have track/pit access, but once you get a pass, you are very well looked after. No one told me about a restriction on 400mm or higher...did not matter anyways since my longest glass is 200mm.

Wish I could get a pass for the Grand Prix in April, but looks like the pros have cornered all the good stuff ... grand stand tickets are on offer from the circuit though :D
