Hello all, this Sunday, I'll have the good fortune of being able to spend a day in Yosemite. Been scoping out maps and reading weather reports and what not but would like to get some expert feedback on where to go. :D

If you only had 1 day in the middle of March, what would be top of the list??? It looks like a few of the waterfalls are going, so I'd like to hit at least one. Anywhere else a must see?

Thanks!

So many things to see so little time. Yosemite Falls for sure. I don't know which falls are flowing. Bdidalvieil falls are pretty but might not be at its best yet. Mirror lake is a good choice as is Happy Isles. These are all in the valley and should be accesable by the bus. Good views of half dome from mirror lake. Happy Isles has a stream for good shots and the trail to vernal and nevada falls. Good views anywhere in the valley really. We are going for a week in May.

Since the warmup lately, the falls should be flowing pretty good, and it's going to be warm this weekend again, so sounds like you'll be blessed with a beautiful day in a beautiful place. Have fun, I'm jealous!

Thanks for the advice guys!!! Printing this thread. :)

Just checked the current conditions, for waterfalls it says:

Rivers & Waterfalls: Yosemite, Vernal, Nevada, and Bridalveil Falls are flowing at nice spring-time flows!

Thanks for the waterfall report. We have a room booked in the valley for a week. Leaving in about a month. Even ordered a new lens for the xt.

The Valley floor and the river are beautiful. Go to one of the redwood groves. Glacier point may not be open but if so its a good place to shoot half dome. On the highway to glacier point there is a turn out right before a tunnel and you can get great shots of half dome and El Capitan. Bring lots of memory and expect to take tons of pictures.

I don't get to the valley floor often. This year we decided to go for it. I am sure tioga won't be open so it's a long way around. We plan to visit the mariposa grove. I have not been there for twenty years. I have seen pictures taken from the tunnel. I want to do some sunset shots there.

The girlfriend and I were just there about a week ago. They have the Cables down for going to the top of half dome right now, and a few of the trails are closed for the winter. We went for the weekend, and spent the first day out near mirror lake, and just wandering the valley. The second day, we decided to attempt going as far as we could on John Muir trail. There was still snow on the ground and the trail that goes along the Merced river was closed, sending you up the mountain side. Some really good views of the waterfalls to be had, even if some of the trails were "officially " closed. There were also a lot of Deer out, and they would even let us get within 5 feet or so of them. We also found a coyote out sunning himself. Let me know if you want to know anything else.

Enjoy yourself!

Most all of the park (at higher altitudes) are still closed until near the beginning of June or end of May. All of the falls in the Valley should be flowing pretty good. I was there about a month ago and Yosemite Falls and Bridalveil were flowing really good. Vernal and Nevada Falls should also be going good but will take a bit of a hike to get to them.
For a little bit of what to expect feel free to check my gallery at http://photography.dunnnet.com/ (external link) then search for Yosemite.

I'm back in one piece now, and just wanted to let the folks who were so nice to give me tips know that I'll post a few pics in a couple of days once I get through the PP. I did get some nice shots, but found out that I did most of it "backwards" in terms of being at the right place when the light was good.

To anyone who hasn't been: It's paradise on earth!!!!:D
