My family and I just spent 5 days skiing in Steamboat Springs, Colorado. We had a blast. And while I brought my 1DsII and my SD900 ELPH I really didn't take very many photographs. I guess I was too busy skiing and drinking beer. :) Funny thing about the photos I did take: my favorite was from the SD900. Go figure. I really wish this camera could shoot in RAW as I certainly wouldn't have sharpened this image so much.

If you can believe it this shot was taken in the middle of a busy cafe on the mountain where we were surrounded by about 200 people at other tables. My intention was to get none of them in the background. I mostly succeeded except for one small head that I cloned out in PS. Now the problem I'm having is deciding if I like the horizontal version or the vertical version better. What do you all think?

My wife, Sidney, and a boda bag full of 20 year old Taylor Fladgate port.

PowerShot SD900 DIGITAL ELPH with fill flash.

7.7mm (26mm FF equivalent): f/8; 1/500s; ISO 100.

Good... after all... doesn't art mean presenting a unique perspective to the ordinary? Well... my dictionary says that anyway...

I'm not fond of the angled shots to start with but out of these two I would go with the vertical. It looks like the water or whatever beverage is flowing in the correct direction, down.

Vertical works better for me just because the horizontal makes it look like she's squeezing the boda.

Ummm... not to be rude.. but... and? If we're talking specifics, the string is hanging by the rules of gravity in the horizontal so the other one looks kind of weird and purposefully flipped...

If I saw it hanging on a wall like that, I'd be tempted to straighten it out.

Thanks!

See this is why I don't think angled shots ever really work. They just look un-natural.

It's not the angle of the shot that would bother me on the wall... I like angled shots because they make you see something from a different perspective.

What got me from the vertical is the fact that it just looks like someone hung it up wrong.

There was a piece at the MOMA that looked like it had some pictures on upside down. It was a wall of different pictures of running water but some shots looked like the water was running in the opporsite direction... maybe it was intentional... but it made me want to turn it.

Thanks!

I have to go with Eagle here. If the wine isn't going downhill, it just looks weird. Nice shot though.

I don't know, I think Regina has a point. The wine can easily defy gravity by being squeezed at high pressure out of the boda bag. While the string should fall with gravity.

One of the reasons this shot is so angled in the first place is because of the large crowd that was surrounding us at the time. My hope was to get none of them in the background. Unfortunately that required some contortions on my part.
