When it comes to photography I know nothing, but I've got a G1 and a 1GB microdrive and I'm having a great time!!! (Just have a look at my web site www.slivinsky.com (external link) I really had fun with my night time photo's)
The only thing I wish would work better is to have a stronger zoom. I know nothing about lens' (I think you need an adaptor to add them...) but what I would really like would be one of those big long zoon lens' I've seen on a number of SLR cameras. The other day I was trying to take a picture of the moon but couldn't get any where nere close enough to get a nice picture. Any help would be great (please provide a lot of detail, I really know nothing!!)

Thanks

Hi Adam,

Congrats on your G1. You will enjoy your new camera, but you will have to understand that it is not a SLR. The biggest difference between the highend point and shoot and SLR's are the ability to add different lenses. So if you want that stronger zoom, you got to pay for it.:(

Other, than that your camera will really perform for you. You do have option of a telephoto lense which will increase your zoom by up to x2, but this will not satisfy your wish.

For answers to this. Select search in the header above and enter "telephoto" under G1 or G2 and you will find lots of discussion on this topic.

Enjoy your camera. :)

look at TIFFEN for 2x zoom (as well as .75 x wideangle).
I am using these, and I am quite satisfied.

However, I would like to have a really huge zoom (5x or more), so if anyone comes across one...

P.S. I tried a nice experiment the other day: I put my binoculars (12 x) on a tripod, looking at a birds nest. I put my G1 into macro mode and held the lens close to the binoculars: to my surprise was the image quite acceptable (though a bit blurred in the center).

Try this site. It has been a while since I visited but at one time they listed big telephotos (5x) with special adaptors for the G1.

Good luck, Keep Bang'in Em Out.
