Spotted this guy today when I went out to get the mail—only 20' from where I got the Eastern Screech Owl the other day. He was busy having lunch on a grey squirrel. I couldn't get too close (about 40' with my 100-400 and 1.4 TC), and those darned branches were everywhere, but this was one of the better shots.

Wow, that is a real nice capture!. Great detail, exposure and color. How big was the hawk? It seems broad and the white spots on the back are similar to the juvenile Goshawk. The Goshawk has a white stripe over the eye?? Either way you have a great shot there.

Thanks for all the comments! Bromm, you're welcome to buy my neighbor's house! :D
Canonloader - I have a XT and was using the 100-400 with the Canon 1.4 TC and a monopod.

Rathke, I'm with you, I thought it was large when I looked at it, but then after examining all of my bird books I settled on the Cooper's. This was mainly due to the lack of a 'strong' eye streak and the white breast as opposed to buff.

The shot below seems to make the breast look more buff, so I'm up for a more expert opinion. I'm going to send to a local naturalist and see what he thinks and I'll let you all know. If it's a Goshawk it's a first for me, both seeing and shooting.
