Hey everyone,
Well, I am looking into getting an EOS 30D. I read a few times about the lifespan before the shutter is through. I was wondering, when this happens, do you get it replaced? And if so, what is the cost. Any help is appreciated, thanks!

Like New as in Work and take pictures - yes. I don't see cameras as car. They either run or they dont.

The shutter can go any time from the very first actuation and last into the 100's of thousands. One never knows when it will give out. But to answer your question, if it went within the first year and was covered by warranty, then of course, I would replace it. If it went in the second year then I would most likely replace it especially if the rest of the camera was still in great shape. In the third year, I would start considering replacing the body.

Not sure why, but call me JJ.
I used to hate math but then I realised decimals have a point.

not really.

it's going to be effectively "like new". The only mechanical parts which break in a dslr are shutter and the mirror assembly. I like to assume that you get both of them replaced.

So after getting them replaced you have a new camera.

Unless you're a real heavy user, you will probably be wanting a new camera by the time your shutter wears out.:)

You took the words right out of my mouth. Many people upgrade within a year it seems like.
