Tried some higher shutter speeds today.

1/160th for pans.
1/320th for most.
AV mode F4 for some of the front on shots.

Hmmm. Maybe a 67mm ND4 is in order...

#4 - Very happy with this one, a good story shot and AV mode F4 did it nicely.

#1 TV mode 1/320th
#2-5 AV mode F4 (Just happened to be 1/1000th)

Need to stick an ND4 on and get F4 down to 1/500th or so.

No USM.
Come to think of it, I don't do USM much at all :(

Just put them up with a touch of USM (3.0, 0.3)

Hope you dont mind, I applied USM to the last one at 270, .5, 0 (I guess this is how to display my settings  )

I tend to oversharpen so let me know what you think, I also had to convert to jpeg in order to post

I had plenty of "sense of speed" ones :D
I was trying higher shutter speeds for a change.
Didn't even get any 1/50th pans :(

That does look a little oversharpened to me. I think something in between the two is probably on the mark. Nice shots. I have an opportunity to shoot some kart racing this year so I'm checking these out.

To the fellow that mentioned a lack of "sense of speed"... how would you introduce that into the shots?

By the way, my favorites are the one you liked... with the line of karts behind the leader, and the one before it of the same fellow with his inside front tire in the air.

I agree with this but not for shot #3. Although it is completely 'frozen', the inside front is off the ground, there is a bit of counter steer, a lot of stress on the outside rear, and the driver's foot is mashed on the gas. To me, that is not just a sense of speed, but also a confimation of speed.

Blurred wheels and background.

Not as much blur as you get at 1/30th though...
