My sister picked this up at an estate sale. (she's a full time E-bayer) She asked if I wanted it, I said sure why not.

The bulb is 1000w. If you grab the knob where the power cord is, you can slide it in and out. I assume it is for "shaping" the light. Anybody know what this light is for and who it is made by? My guess is that it is more for movies than still.

I can't answer your question, but if you or your sister DO put it up on eBay, let me know, I'll bid a couple of bucks for it! LOL

That's some light! 1000 watts. Do you have to have a welders mask on when it is in use?

LOL

Its a continuos light Beauty Dish.

The 2 rods coming out from the dish are to connect a rearward reflector to soften the light.

You move the light in and out to chnge its intensity, and focus.

Ok I cant say that for a fact, but that is what it looks like to me.

We actually had a couple of these at my camera club until a few years ago. I scavenged parts from the two to make a couple of special purpose flash heads.

They are just general purpose 1000 Watt lights mostly used for photography, cine, or theatrical purposes. They could be used for video, but most likely they were purchases long before video became commonly available. Bulbs should still be available from places like "bulbs direct" but are likely pretty expensive.

The two rods in the middle are for a domed diffuser/reflector to subdue the direct light from the bulb (so the output is more even over the entire reflector). Looks like you did not get that part.

The center slider allows you to focus the light somewhat.

I would give it a test drive, you may like it. But I would carefully inspect that braided fabric cord. They have a tendancy to break down with time. But a good visual inspection will tell you if is still vital or not.

Enjoy! Lon

Do you have any pics of the lights you guys has. I'd like to see what the missing reflector looked like. Is it just a little dome like a beaty dish?

I tore the two units we had apart and scavenged the light stand part for some flash head huge softboxes I constructed.

All the other parts were tossed, so I cannot help with a pic.

My best memory was that it was a dome shaped thing made of aluminum and glass. The idea is to muzzle the direct output of the light and force it to bounce off the large dish. This would prevent a hotspot in the center of the light.

Even a piece of frosted glass a bit larger than the maximum diameter of the bulb would likely be fine.

Sorry I cannot help more, but my deconstruction project was a few years ago.

Enjoy! Lon
