Nice one! The large focal length and over cast conditions really helped get ride of the fence from the photo. Where is that photo taken? Turn 2 or somewhere else?

Ah sweet thanks for the info. Tom told me where he was standing last year to get his shots and they really helped me this year. I'll lock Turn 10 into the memory banks for next year as well. :)

That's a little too soft for me. I think 1/500 is not fast enough for a F1 car frontal shot. But i can see that u already pushed to ISO400.

The shutter speed is fine shooting front on, I suspect the problem is either the lens not being able to focus fast enough, not using ai-servo or simple the lens is soft.

Looking closely at the shot, the rear wing is in focus the best.

Looks a little soft to me as well... not sure why - I love the angle and the lines on the road; pity it isn't sharper though.

Have to agree that the image looks a bit soft, what speed would he have been doing there Lawrie? At a guess 220? I still think you need a nice Canon 300mm f4 and a 1 series body for your motor racing shots ;)

Thanks for all the comments, I agree it is alittle soft but that is due to the slow focus on the old Tamron lens. as Dave suggested the car was doing approx 200km/h at that point.

Pre-focussing can help. Focus on a spot on the track in anticipation of where the car will be. I use that technique when using a 2x TC on my 120-300 and it works nicely once you get the hang of it. If you don't have a sturdy monopod, consider buying one.

Also, don't be afraid to up the ISO to get your aperture at f8 or thereabouts, the lens should be a bit sharper at that point. 1/500 is more than enough, most of us rarely go above 1/400th :)

I agree about the relative softness, but it's still a pretty good shot. I suspect next years shots will be even better.

Again agree on the softness but still a nice image for the bank!
