The game started at the harshest light condition (1pm) plus I was infront of the sun too. Manage to get a few shots. C&C welcome as this was the first time I shot this sport. It took a while to get the timing down.

1. No face but it was intented to get this shot.

Very sharp.

Looks like the pitcher is using her old man's high school glove.

My only real complaint is the picture is backlit and you aren't exposing for her. That's the perfect time when spot metering is useful.
Otherwise, good job and good variety.

Thanks alot for the comments. I was surprise how small the crowd was. Shooting behind the fence was tough too.

Ronnie, I didn't know there's a difference between softball and baseball gloves :o

grego, I shot manual and thought about exposed for the face but was afraid that I'd blow the background and overexposed everything else. I'll take your words and I'll try it next time. :)

Thanks

Better to blow out background than player. Heck, that's done with models all the time!!

An example of the opposite(underexposure), but i think it works as a similar thing.

There's really no difference, although softball gloves have a bigger pocket to handle the bigger ball. What I was getting at was the age of the glove - it looks like it has seen it share of innings.

Nice shots, I wish I had that style of lighting more often, makes the shots nicer and pop more.

I really like the composition of the first one.

Thanks for looking!

Thanks for all the comments.

Here's the shot before #1 but I shot it vertically and didn't like it so I turned the camera :)

I also tried it again in the next inning but I think it only worked out ok.

grego, thanks for the SS link. That's a great shot. Infact most of the tennis shots in that gallery are amazing. I have to learn to put backlit lighting to my advantage.

Thanks power_monkey.

I think shooting baseball/softball is fun since you have a lot of chances to get things right :D
