Did not see this in a search.. sorry if it's redundant.

But this looks very cool.

Quantum, makers of the huge QFlash units that are a bizarre yet useful combination somewhere between a giant Speedlite, and a compact studio strobe, have introduced a Wireless TTL adapter that can be added to the QFlash 5D-R, giving the shooter wireless control of the massive QFlash using only a small Canon Speedlite or wireless transmitter.

Of course Quantum has always had there own Wireless transmitter. but with this option, someone already invested in a Canon (or Noink) wireless and hot shoe flash system can add the power of the QFlash with minimal additional gear.

QNexus allows grouping and ration so one could, for instance, use a 58)ex on camera with direct or bounced light, while triggering wirelessly the QFlash as the main light, and another Canon Speedlite as back ground light etc.

Yeah, they are back ordered at Calumet. I don't think that BH carries the Quantum products.

B&H does have them. I have purchased all my Quantum equipment there.

Hi CyberDyneSystems
Quantum has a nice free DVD which explains their system. Just follow the link. http://www.qtm.com/DVD/?res_set=&res=1280 (external link)

I have been using QNexus about 3 months, and I am in quick location lighting hog heaven with short distance, wireless E-TTL Ratios and high quality light. Made myself my own QF QNexus reminder sheet to carry in field here:
http://postit.rutgers.edu …WirelessCanon%5FETTL3.pdf (external link)

Integrating Canon EX Flashes, with their on-the-go wireless ratios, and higher quality QFlash light brought it all together for me, after couple years of work-arounds. I rarely wax poetic about gear, but this does everything I need fast on-the-go location light to do, as long as distance stays within range. I had a few posts on experience with it a few weeks back.

I can get in to a space, get a shot with QF on a stand with 19" Norman, 580 EX on a stand, ST-E2 and get out in three minutes flat by adjusting ratios and FEC from master. Timed myself two weeks ago.

You only need one good light in life on-the-go. But wouldn't mind a second QF now...
Jack

I'm seriously thinking of upgrading my T5d to the newer T5d-R (which for those who don't know, you don't need to buy a new flash..just send in your flash and they'll upgrade it for cheap) but I'm kinda unsure about the wireless reception.

Canon uses IR to communicate right? So my 580EX has to be facing the Qflash and the Qflash has to be able to see my 580EX? Or am I bonkers and Canon uses RF and as long as I am within a certan distance the Qflash can be located just about anywhere?

Would like some real life feedback cause I'm in utter love with my T5d and would love having wireless without using PW's.

That’s a good point. I am going to have to look at the Quantum DVD that had Will Crockett demonstrating it.

I can't believe that I flubbed the search on B & H and went to Calumet. Last night I was browsing the giant B & H catalog and there were 10 pages or so on Quantum products! DOH!

Jim,

Unfortunately if the DVD they send you is the same as the preview then you won't hear anything about the QNexus because that DVD is 2-3 years old (I have it). I can however say that it will sell you on Quantum products

Nick

Crockett says on the DVD that it will work any where in the room up to 150 feet. He said that you could move around. He did not give any real specific details.

JX:
If you have Dw hotshoe adaptor, send that in with QF. I forgot to send Dw in for update.
I recognize QF is not for everybody, and I do not endorse it to most people. I don't work in studio. Everything is editorial, event, location, or close-up. In these environments, QF shines. Blows the doors off Canon hotshoe flash.
An unintended benefit upgrading to T5-d-R, getting QNexus, and getting QFlash off camera bracket: with 580 EX or ST-E2 Master, I get low light focus assist for all 45 points. QF only did focus assist with Center Point selected.

QF is not for everyone, but it is for me.

Hi Jack
I was planning to send my adapter. That was one of the first questions I asked Quantum customer service. I remembered that you told me that when you answered one of my pervious posts.

Thanks

Jim

Ahh, so they do have an updated DVD. Might have to send a request for one... Too bad they don't get into the gritty details that all of us love.

If you have Dw hotshoe adaptor, send that in with QF.

I assume you are talking about the adaptor that goes from my hotshoe to the Q-flash. So you send it in for a wireless upgrade, maybe with this unit the system runs on RF and therefore doesn't require a line of sight to the flash like IR does.

Can you tell I hate IR communication? :D

Thanks,
Nick

Nick that's a good question, maybe Jack can answer that one.
