Anybody have any experience with this monolight? http://www.adorama.com/FP1220K.html (external link)

I've been doing shoots lately with dancer friends, not in a studio or anything, just in random places that we find. The first thing I say when we walk into a room they want to shoot in is "well, this would be great, if there was LIGHT!!" So, I need a flash unit so I won't have my on-camera flash casting horrible shadows, as in the pic below ;)

Another thought, as I can only afford one of these at the moment, was to set up a "strobist" type secondary light with my shoemount flash. I'm open to ANY and ALL suggestions, really! Thanks in advance :)

I haven't any clue on your question, but I must say I'm disappointed with that username of yours and no hint of anything having to do with 006. Oh well.

By the way, there are horrible shadows in that shot. The camera was just in such a way that it isn't too obvious. Looks like a speedlite to me.

They're good, solidly built and reliable packs. Almost up there with hensels... just slower recycle time.

I did in the olden days, when I first adopted the name as an online handle...decided on a change after a year or so :) Now, if we had custom user titles enabled....I'd be glad to add in a "For England, James?" You know, for all the fans ;)

Oh yes, I know...that's what I was complaining about. That's actually one of the better ones from that shoot, shadow-wise ;) Sigma 500 DG ST is my shoe-mount flash. It gets the job done, except in situations like this one ;)

Thanks for the input. Recycle time usually isn't an issue for me, since I tend to be wanting to catch dancers mid-air, and that only lasts so long once they get there! :D Don't think there's a monolight out there that recycles fast enough to get multiple mid-air shots on the same jump, and if there is... well let's just say I'm sure my wallet would tuck its tail between its legs and run off into the woods whining :D:D

I suspect that many monolights, pack/head flash units, and even some speedlights could catch several exposures per second if you crank the power down significantly.

But, it is likely even these reduced power levels may very very usable, especially if you can get close with the flash. With many monolights or pack/head units you would not even need to be that close.

Enjoy! Lon
