I am basically a landscape, etc. photog but I have been given an assignment that involves some indoor shooting (a business owner and his business).

I am currently using a 5D which has no flash. I need a quick recommendation for a flash that will help with this assignment but also (because of the investment) will work well into the future with a general variety of needs.

Thanks, /Dan

For "a general variety of needs", 430EX Speedlite or Sigma EF-500 DG Super.

For more intense professional use, 580EX Speedlite.

Adding your own light opens up a world of creative possibilities, but it requires a whole different mentality in your approach. Practice a lot with your flash before walking into a paid shoot with it.

Well, once again all I can say is this: you folks are great. POTN is probably one of the best, most helpful internet communities I've ever seen. And I have been around LONG before the web became popular. I operated major BBS systems way back in the early 80's. Thanks for your help.

I decided on the 580ex. BH's price with overnight shipping was $421. A local camera store I always try to frequent has it for $429. It's a few dollars more plus I have to drive an hour to get there AND pay local sales tax, but because I am a major believer in supporting the local camera store when possible, I will buy it locally.

And yes, I agree. Practice, practice, practice. Nothing can be more damaging than fumbling and bumbling when you are expected to perform as a professional. thanks again. /Dan
