Sadly, there's not much of the old circuit left. But what's left of it at the back of the Brooklands Air Museum is huge... Those old guys must have had some guts to wang it round this curve on those skinny tires...!!

Brooklands is an amazing place. The banking is even steeper a little further round past the start/finish straight. Good stuff.

What a cool place. Someone has got to figure out a way to save that. Our local track, Virginia International, was dormant for many years before a new group reopened her. It has been well worth the investment. Hopefully a group will come around and treat this old track well.

World War II and the following decades of neglect haven't treated the circuit well. What little is left of the circuit will be preserved as it is a "scheduled ancient monument". That's the highest level of protection possible under UK law.

It also means it will probably be left to rot into the ground because no-one will be brave enough to go through the rediculous bueracracy involved with getting anything done with a scheduled ancient monument.

Shame.

Gary.

Contrary to the doom and gloom being expressed things are improving at Brooklands. The Railway Straight was cleared and run this year for the first time since 1939 when the Second World War interrupted the fun. Expect more improvements as the circuit celebrates its centenary year.

I went to http://www.brooklands.org.uk/intro.htm (external link)... what a place that was. But looking carefully at some of those historic images, the track looked pretty rough back then as well. I love looking at those old shots...man those guys had gutts to do what they did. And what a unique design for a track. I need to go visit this place next time I am over visiting my dad.

Brooklands for me is less than 30 minutes away from home. Being a Friend of Brooklands allows free admission for most events.

They are doing a commendable job in restoring the site. Everytime I visit there always seem to be changes made.

Try also this site (external link). Their biggest event this year is the Centenary Weekend 15- 17th June.

That looks like the part that they run the MG rally Extreme cars down, well, part of it. I had one of these experience days bought for me. Excellent fun! The driver ran as close to the top as possible and as fas as possible. :)

The tail end of this bend has been taken over by one of the overspill car parks. I couldn't resist back up to the top of the bend and boot it toward the bottom of the bend. Just a couple of hundred metres, but it was fun while it lasted!
